Isabelle Rose

Author of Under the Moonlight

Interview with Author Offerings

What is Under the Moonlight all about?
It’s the story about a woman named Morgan Carbone. She’s a detective, and in the beginning of the story she’s investigating a series of crimes that lead her to a serial killer who claims he’s a werewolf. While she’s interrogating him, he bites her and she in turn becomes a werewolf. She becomes fixated on finding him to get revenge for turning her into a monster.
This bit of the story started out as a short story, sort of a way for me to introduce the character and what she’s all about.
Then, in the story, 4 months pass by and Morgan is still trying to become used to being a werewolf, when another werewolf who’s seeking revenge for the murder of his sister captures her. He forces Morgan to go to Europe and find an ancient vampire named Elizabeth Bathory. Things get complicated when Morgan begins to develop feelings for the beautiful vampire.

That sounds very cool! You’ve combined two of my favorite things: serial killers and werewolves. How did you come up with the idea?
I have always been intrigued with the story of Elizabeth Bathory, it’s something that is just so dark and disturbing, and how a woman in that time could get away with doing such horrible things for so long. I also wanted to challenge myself with writing a horror novel. I wanted to see if I was capable of doing it. It was an amazing experience being able to search deep within myself and find darkness and gore.

Tell the readers about some of your other work, Isabelle?
I have written several books, a mix of genres like erotica and romance, but I also delve into magical realism and fantasy (my favorite genres to write). I wrote a collection of erotic fairy tales titled Naughty Fairy Tales (originally published through Stardust Press, now available through Lulu.com) and a collection of short stories titled The Jackets (Lulu.com).

What can we expect from you in the future?
I’m waiting to hear back about a novel about Apollo and Daphne (based on the Greek myth) titled The Laurel. I’m currently working on a novel based on the Greek myth of Hades, Persephone and Demeter tentatively titled Pomegranate. I’m also working on putting together a collection of rewritten fairy tales with an amazing group of writers titled Twisted Fairy Tales. It’s going to include horror, science fiction, poetry and erotica. I’m really looking forward to this project.

FAR Interview

This morning I have the pleasure of speaking to Isabelle Rose. Hello Isabelle, it is so good to have you with us today at Fallen Angel Reviews. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedule to speak with us today.

Hello, Linda. Thank you so much for having me here.

Isabelle, why not take the readers into what a day is like for Isabelle, after she awakes?

Well, I have quite a busy schedule, especially now that I have a 9 month old baby boy. Once I’m done taking care of him in the morning and he takes a nap I try to do as much writing as humanly possible. Right now I’m working on putting together an anthology of rewritten fairy tales with an amazing group of authors titled Twisted Fairy Tales. Imagine your favorite fairy tale but in different genres like horror, science fiction and erotica. So I’m very excited about this project.

I’m also working on a few short stories for other anthologies, as well as a novel based on the Greek Myth of Hades, Persephone and Demeter.

Under the Moonlight, I like the precept and premise of the storyline, why not tell us a little more about the story? And congrats on the review.

Under the Moonlight started out as a short story about a female detective that gets bitten by a serial killer who also happens to be a werewolf. The story intrigued me to the point where I couldn’t sleep because I just couldn’t get the main character, Morgan Carbone, out of my head. So I started writing a novel with Morgan in mind and ended up with Under the Moonlight, which also introduced the character of Elizabeth Bathory, who was one of the first female serial killers of the late 1500’s and 1600’s. I’ve always been intrigued with Bathory. I did some research on her and discovered a lot of the terrible and gruesome things she did while she was alive.

What drew you to this type of genre?

I wanted the challenge. I wanted to write something I’d never written before. Most of the fiction I write is mainly erotica, and/or fantasy (leaning towards magical realism). And I surprised myself by being able to finish a horror novel and actually give it a somewhat twisted yet happy ending.

What does your working space look like? Are you an organized person?

Oh God no. *laughs* My desk is horrible. There are papers everywhere. The only way I can find anything is because I know what order everything is stacked up.

What does the future look like for Isabelle?

I hope to continue writing for as long as possible. I would like to explore other genres like science fiction, mystery, maybe write another horror novel. Who knows what the future holds? I just hope I’m holding a pen and a notebook until the day I die.

Literary Nymphs Review

Morgan Carbone is a hard-boiled detective who’s after a serial killer preying on young women. During an interrogation with the man, she’s attacked and her life is suddenly changed forever. Now she’s compelled to hunt down a vampiress, but what happens when her own emotions become entangled with the enigmatic woman she’s supposed to kill?

Under the Moonlight is a fast-paced story full of action--in and out of the bed. The plot is very intriguing, especially given some key players I personally loved reading. I don’t want to give anything away, but let’s just say that one of those players is a particular historical figure known for her… bloodlust. The love scenes are hot and never repetitive and the ending was wonderful.

If you enjoy lesbian vampire stories, I definitely suggest giving Under the Moonlight a read.

Coffee Time Romance Interview

Can you tell readers what Under the Moonlight is about?

Under the Moonlight is about Detective Morgan Carbone and what happens to her when she gets bitten by a serial killer that claims to be a werewolf. Most of the back story is explained during the prologue, which incidentally, started out as a short story and after a while with Morgan stewing in my head I had no choice but to turn her story into a novel. The rest of the novel is about what happens to Morgan when she gets captured by a werewolf named Mario Bonaventura who sends her to Europe to kill Elizabeth Bathory. What no one was counting on was that Morgan would fall in love with the very beautiful and very deadly vampire, complicating her mission in more ways than she could’ve imagined.

Here is the official blurb:

In the blink of an eye, Detective Morgan Carbone’s life changes from day to night. Sociopath, serial killer, and charmer David McAllister won’t reveal where the bodies of several young women are located, and Morgan is determined to get answers from him. She gets much more from him during an interrogation, when he sinks his teeth into her hand, causing her to bleed profusely. The bite leaves Morgan with flawless skin as her wound heals quickly and perfectly, and it leaves her with severe bloodlust as she has now turned into a werewolf, like her serial-killing nemesis. This drastic change casts Morgan into an action-packed, dramatic journey as she is pressured (a deadly chip in the brain can do that) by a man to go across the country to kill a vampire that has supposedly killed his sister. Morgan must decide if she will fulfill her goal for him or let her heart fall for the deadly vampiress, who eerily reminds her of her first and only true love – a woman who got away.

I have actually heard about the real Elizabeth Bathory while watching a program about vampires. History states that she did in fact bathe in the blood of nubile young women to abstain the aging process. Was there something in particular about Elizabeth Bathory that grabbed your attention and had you wanting to write about her?

I always found her story fascinating (in a grotesque sort of way) and the more I read about Elizabeth Bathory the more I wanted to use her as a character in one of my stories. What really drew me to her was the fact that it was a beautiful woman who thought that bathing in young girls’ blood would keep her forever young and beautiful. And even though she was found guilty of these crimes (it took a long time to catch her, she was so careful) she was only held under house arrest in her own house, living the rest of her days locked up in her room. The opportunity presented itself for me to finally use this twisted woman in my novel while I was writing Under the Moonlight. I actually did a lot of research on her before I even started writing her into my story. If anyone is interested, this is the book I used for my research The Blood Countess: The Atrocities of Erzsebet Bathory by Valentine Penrose.

What I loved most about your novel was the “what if” question that kept going around and around in my brain. For example there was a character in the novel who was known as being a mad doctor of sorts. Was there really a Marianne Green who went by The Surgeon? If so, what fascinated you with her characteristics? If not, how did you come up with this character?

LOL. Marianne Green was someone I came up with. I love characters that are beautiful on the outside and incredibly ugly and twisted on the inside. Marianne is a brilliant scientist who can’t stop herself from doing these terrible things to people and it doesn’t really take much to instigate her. If you look at her the wrong way or drop something on the floor too close to her feet…that’s really all she needs to lash out on you.  As to how I came up with her? Let’s just say whenever I have a bad day my mind runs rampant with very bad thoughts. Good thing I have my writing to vent.

Horror

Isabelle Rose

All night she dreamt of blood. The crackle and crunch of bones made her uneasy.

Morgan gasped and kicked until she was awake. Her head throbbed. She smelled like sweat and fear and there was something stuck between her teeth. She pried at it unsuccessfully with her fingernails. Frustrated, she threw the sheets aside and ran into the bathroom. She grabbed a bit of dental floss. The thin piece of white string slid back and forth. Morgan let out a sigh of relief when she felt whatever it was come loose. She felt large piece of skin between her thumb and index finger. Only it had…ridges. She frowned.

Probably a piece of chicken from yesterday’s lunch.

That’s strange.

Interview with Crystal

CA: What genre(s) do you write? Why do you write the stories that you write?

IR: I write fantasy, erotica, fiction and horror. I write because I love to daydream. I love to look at people and imagine what their lives are like, or what they’re thinking at that particular moment. Also, because I have an overactive imagination and writing is the healthiest way for me to express myself.

CA: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

IR: My whole life I wanted to be a writer. Ever since I was able to hold a pen and form sentences.

CA: Who or what was your inspiration for writing?

IR: Other writers help inspire me to write, like Terry Moore (Author/Artist/Creator of Strangers in Paradise and Echo) and Laurel K. Hamilton (I really like the Merry Gentry series). But also random things in life help inspire me to pick up a pen.
